Description

Harold Gaze, "Iris" story illustration (1929), 14" x 11.25." Gaze was an early twentieth century children's book illustrator renowned for his fairy watercolors, and once worked for Disney Studios. Born in Australia, he moved to California in the early 20s. I first saw Gaze's work 5-6 years ago in the gallery of Graphic Collectibles, but at the time couldn't afford it (although I made some offers!). I waited patiently until this one came up to auction, and then I jumped. . .

Fantastic piece! Classic illustration art like this goes for pennies on the dollar compared to comic art. I don;t get it, but I love it!
