Description

Wash Tubbs #28, the second oldest original art from the series still known to exist, by Roy Crane (25� x 6�).

Wash Tubbs started as a gag-a-day strip, but it quickly transformed into the first known adventure comic, and had a huge influence on the medium. The strip ran until 1949, when it was merged into Crane�s other strip, Captain Easy, which ran until 1988. This art is from the earliest days of the run, when the strip was still titled �Wash Tubbs II.� In fact, �Wash Tubbs II� is written in pencil in the margins.

Let�s be honest, the gag in this strip is meh. But, this is a little piece of comics history, and I am honored to have it in my collection.

Nice, the birth of the adventure strip. I like the gag, hapless Wash was never the ladies' man he imagined himself as being.

Mazel Tov, Ben! That's one wonderful piece of history! And that drawing. From early on, Crane drew such wonderful figures.
