It was always all or nothing with Ditko. I think he went a bit mad.

I do not believe that Ditko went insane. It is my opinion that his love/hate relationship with the fame that ASM and Stan Lee brought him ended up causing him much internal turmoil. Was he bitter? Yes. Was he suicidal similar to Wally Wood? No. His reclusive nature and his ambivalence towards his own artwork just further created a cult of personality around him. This 2012 celebrity strip encapsulates this man very well. Thanks much for posting.

i agree with this, in fact it seems from bits and pieces that i've seen about interesting original pieces being posted here and CGC that if you approached Steve and asked him about his post Marvel work, he was very corgial, and would even be at times willing to draw a picture for fans who did. I believe that his experience at Marvel turned him sour on even the work he did there. I do not believe he went insane. I think he was angry for life.

Great story! I'm a fan of Ditko's independant comics and think he was still doing interesting work up until the end.

Really, REALY cool stuff. His viewpoint was unique, no disputing that, and his courage to consistently put himself out there like this (giving the "fans" what HE wants instead of vice versa) deserves all the accolades it has garnered. A very intriguing artist, without question, and these pages are a great sample of his undiluted, uncompromising vision. Thanks for posting these (I hadn't seen this before), and congrats on this cool "document".
