Description

Was amazed to see this piece up for auction and more amazed i won it a t a reasonable price. Elllis was a radical cartoonist whose work appeared in the masses and other left wing publication before he became the staff artist on the Daily Worker. His work is scarce because a large portion of it is archived at Syracuse University and the Library of congress.
A powerful piece of art whose only drawback is that Ells drew really large!

Very nice, George! This is the only Ellis work that I've seen.

Yes my guess is most is archived or long sicne destroyed - this came out of the SantaFe execs estate in Chicago who colleted a lot of editorial and strip art starting in the 1920's and whose estate was somehow given to a jewelry auction house to sell! This is one of several artists or obscure strisp that I have never seen another example by
