DescriptionWhen DC decided to revive its popular 1970s Firestorm title (a victim of the DC Implosion), it turned to Gerry Conway for the writing chores. After a historic run on Spider-man, including writing the death of Gwen Stacy, Conway established himself as fan favorite writer who struck a chord with the comic reading audience. For the art chores, DC assigned Pat Broderick as the penciller on Firestorm, and the results were a dynamic good looking book that was one of my favorite reasons to look forward to the passing of each month. However, I never liked the inks on that book. Broderick's style is tailor made for a pen inker, but a variety of brush inkers were put on that book who never did Broderick's pencil's any justice. Enter Justice League 200, one of my favorite comic books ever (also written by Conway), featuring my then-beloved Firestorm, pencilled by Broderick and inked by none other than Terry Austin, whom, it is no secret, I feel is either the best, or one of the best inkers to ever have laid india ink to board. Austin's inks put a shine on Broderick's pencils unlike any I had ever seen. The few Broderick / Austin pages in Justice League 200 were amongst the most well thumbed in my entire comic collection. I am fortunate to have acquired one of those pages (my favorite one actually) and pour over each delicious line. Social/Sharing |

What a great looking page. The unique character of the penciller's line was retained yet enhanced by Terry Austin's golden touch.

Unlike you, I really liked Rodin Rodriguez's inks over Broderick on Fury of Firestorm... However the Broderick/Austin team up here is undeniably GREAT!
