DescriptionWhen I started collecting art one of the first things I decided I wanted was a Giffen Defenders page. Is it derivative Kirby? Heck yeah. But I still love it. Little did I know that it would take years before I would even get the opportunity! Finally the wait is over and I couldn't be happier. It's a prime example and from one of my favorite issues of his run. In fact, I still have my copy of the book that I read more than a thousand times. It's got classic Hulk dialogue like "Stupid Moon Man" and a killer sound effect, POINK! Social/Sharing |

That is a killer page! Second to Sal Buscema, Giffen was my favorite artist on The Defenders. That issue was a fave of mine too!

Definitely has that Kirbyesque thrill to it. Fun page!

Kirbyesque it was, but the talent was there from the beginning. And the Scorpio storyline is an absolute gem of Marvel Bronze Age. Definitely well chosen!

Kirby derivative is a compliment if done well, which this page is. Glad you were able to get your example - congrats!

What a great catch! Action and comedy in the classic Defenders style, and giffen was really channelling the Kirby vibes! Love it!

Panels 3 and 4 are two of the greatest I've ever seen. 3 is awesome, but 4 is just plain hilarious: 'Poink!' Priceless.

I think this comment is spot on. Royer really made Giffen look great. Marvel was lucky to have both of these terrific talents during this period.
