Description

Edwin Austin Abbey, illustration from the poem "The Noble Patron," from the book "The Collected Poems of Austin Dobson." Caption for illustration reads, "then for a moment with bent head, rested upon her hand and read." Dated 1888.

Abbey was one of the great illustrators at the beginning of the Golden Age of illustration, working in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Abbey may be best known for the murals he created for the Pennsylvania State Capitol and the Boston Public Library, but he also was a fantastic illustrator for books and magazines. Very happy to finally add his work to the collection!
