Description

While the 2003 TMNT cartoon series will likely remain my favorite animated version of the Turtles, the 2012 series put out by Nickelodeon is SHOCKINGLY good. It pays a lot of homage to many incarnations of the TMNT while still standing strongly on its own. Much of that strength is due to the art style that was overseen by Ciro Nieli. After finishing the series, I knew I had to get something from him. A collector friend of mine put me in touch with his art rep and we were able to work something out.

The 2012 toon version of Splinter is my favorite version from any incarnation of the TMNT; including comics and movies. With that in mind, I wanted to feature him prominently. Going down the route of an homage, there were very few options as Splinter is not featured on many classic covers. However, the 5th print of issue #1 features not only Splinter, but also all the Turtles and Shredder too.

Once we worked out the details, Ciro reached out and said he was planning on using the art as the basis for a print for the 2022 Granite State Comic Con in New Hampshire. Sure enough, he made 2 different versions of the print for the show.

I'm so psyched for how this turned out. Thanks to all who helped make this happen!
