DescriptionThis is the page of comic art that I have owned longer than any other piece in my collection. I bought a couple of pages before this one, but I sold them over time. This has been a keeper.I have this page because during the mid-1990s I subscribed to the Graphic Collectibles catalogs for a few years. One catalog had a Daredevil page by Gene Colan that caught my eye. The catalog claimed there were more pages available, so I asked Mitch Itkowitz to fax a list to me at work. I remember watching the fax machine closely because it was shared by the entire office and got a lot of use in the mid-1990s, compared to fax machines today. I received a long list of art, and I went for one of the cheaper pages available. This page cost $75, and I think Gene and Tom's use of shadows in the top panels is lovely. I also like their take on Electro's costume. I had this page framed for many years but took it out of the cheap frame a few years ago so I could get a better scan of the page. Thanks to Lars Teglbjaerg, who has a lot of other great pages from Daredevil #87, for prodding me to share these memories. Social/Sharing |

Never had Electro on my list of "favourite villains". But OH man, is that simple page looking awesome! When Electro steps out of the dark, I really get scared! He never looked more self-evident and terrifying. His pose, his look, ... sheer evil! Great!!!

Very nice background story, Lee. $75 for such a suspenseful page seems like a steal today. I tip my hat to you for having the foresight to keep it.

A keeper! Love Colan's use of extreme shadows and vantage points in each panel. The motion is so strong, even without wind lines or obvious action sequences. Colan's figures are never static
