I remember buying this issue off the stand at 7-11 when I was a kid. Always loved this cover and I am glad I was able to pick it up. Norm Breyfogle pays tribute to Bob Kane’s original vision of the Detective Comics #27 cover by rendering his personal interpretation for his 1 of only 2 published painted covers featuring the Batman. This special commemorative issue also honors the Dark Knight’s 600th issue Anniversary in Detective Comics. Teamed with writer, Alan Grant, Norm Breyfogle helped re-popularize The Batman and revive the sales of Detective Comics similar to the way that Neal Adams did with The Dark Knight in the 1970’s & Jim Aparo accomplished in the 1980’s. Breyfogle drew The Batman for six years (1987-1993); penciling Detective Comics from 1987-1990, then moving to Batman to introduce the “New” Robin from 1990-1992, and finally starting a new Batman series for DC comics titled: Shadow of the Bat from 1992-1993. Many Batman aficionados consider Breyfogle’s Detective Comics #627 cover painting to not only be one of the best cover images of his career, but also one of the most recognizable covers from the modern run of Detective Comics! The cover art has an image area of approximately 10" x 15".

I too loved this issue ever since I picked it up all those years ago. I got a real kick from the cameo (I think) of the BATMAN '89 opening scene crooks. Breyfogle really delivered with this one.
