Description

Following the influences of Raymond and Williamson, Carlos Garzon took on the art chores to Flash Gordon when the rights reverted from Charlton back to Western in 1978. Obviously, Garzon's style was heavily influenced by Williamson, who in turn was heavily influenced by Raymond and these pages demonstrate influences of both. Look at the dancing girl in panel 3 and the party scene in panel 4.

These pages come from the first 22 page comic story of Flash Gordon 35 entitled Queen of Ice, Queen of Fire referring to Fria, Raymond's Queen of Ice married to Ronal and Zarah the blind queen of fire introduced in this issue. The story was written by John Warner and was reprinted in the Flash Gordon Comic-Book Archives (Dark Horse, 2010 series)

Here, Ming has been re-instated as emperor of Mongo and Flash has returned to defeat him, but needs aid starting with Ronal and Fria. This page screams Williamson with touches of Krenkel in the cityscape of panel 5.

All of these originals are twice-up and very impressive.

I have 19 of the 22 pages of this story. If anyone knows where page 1, 2 and 16 live I'd love to know.
