Description

Teddy attended SDCC 2013 after 13 years of not going to San Diego and he was kind enough to sell to me this wonderful piece and also tell me the story behind this unpublished work. This page was Teddy's original cover for his Solo issue, but DC wanted the main focus on its characters and the Neil Gaiman story, so they asked Ted if he would be willing to do a Deadman cover and use this piece as the back cover. Ted agreed, as they had just given him 48 pages to do whatever he wanted with. The artists chosen were given total free range and no obstacles except that one of the stories should be with a DC character. Could be a one page story if that's what they chose, as long as it had the DC character. Neil Gaiman was in Copenhagen, and he had lunch with Ted, who asked him to write a Deadman story for the Solo issue, which made Mark Chiarello, the editor, happy. In the end this image was published as endpaper and in black and white.
