Description

I've always loved the legacy aspect of the Justice Society -- how these older characters passed on their alter egos, powers, idioms, etc. to their children and protégés. One of the most wildly different of these successors was the android Hourman created by Grant Morrison, a machine constructed in the far future by the company Rex Tyler (the Golden Age Hourman) founded.

Here's a page from his brief solo series, where the android's present-day existence becomes known to Rex Tyler's widow and cancer-ridden son (who once himself had a superheroic Hourman identity.) I love this bedside scene between two family members who have suffered so much loss -- how our mechanical protagonist appropriating the family name ups the pathos in what they can only perceive as a cruel trick of betraying fate.
