I am in awe of this book! If the nickname of Graphic Novel is, I think, very often given too lightly, there are a few very good books that more than deserve it. On that list, you can find the best stories by Alan Moore and, among them, From Hell!

The art by Eddie Campbell is one of the major assets here. Apparently low-key at first glance, it is in fact never conflicting with the story, always helping the reader to dive deep in... Well, I think that's what comic books are all about!... Or, at least, should aspire to...

This page represents all I like in Eddie Campbell's art: it's so complete and coherent it could have been published as a stand-alone page!

PS: I recently acquired the "From Hell companion" book, a compilation of selected Alan Moore's scripts commented by Eddie Campbell himself (with assorted memos and documents). I strongly recommend its reading to all who have loved that book and would like to know a little bit more about its long genesis...

I was also very thrilled to find out that this very page was among the ones that were deemed worthy of comments and that the reasons Eddie Campbell liked this page - one of his personal favourites - were exactly mirroring my own! All the quiet pacing, the tiny details, the perfect legibility, all concurr to the sensation that everything is in its right place!

If you ever read this, Mr Campbell, be assured that personal favourite of yours is also one of mine and I will treasure it accordingly!... Thank you!
