DescriptionThe post-Colan days were rather wild for the Dr Strange who roamed the pages of Marvel Premiere... It looked like the creative teams were constantly shuffling and experimenting until Steve Engleheart and Frank Brunner finally nailed it and built their own solid part of the mythos...Before that Stan Lee, Archie Goodwin and Gardner Fox gradually took him through a proto-Lovecraftian story that, if not without merits, was a little confused. Maybe as a consequence, you may be forgiven if you didn't notice the artwork by artists of the calibre of Barry Windsor-Smith, Mike Ploog, Jim Starlin and... P.Craig Russell! P.Craig Russell, then, certainly one of his first assignments. If his own style still has to emerge, I love these 2 moody pages (deftly inked by reliable Frank Giacoia) where I detect some strong Steranko influence (shades of "At the stroke of midnight"?) in the composition and the figures'stances that disappeared later on, when Russell found his own voice.
