I'll confess, I have a thing for failed universes.

As a youngster, I hadn't been collecting comics for long when the announcement of Marvel's New Universe came out. I liked the idea of a setting separate from the traditional Marvel Universe, but it wasn't really clear what was going to distinguish these new comics. They were being written and drawn by many of the same people who did old favorites at a time when Marvel's talent pool was stretched a bit thin.

There was some lip service paid to the New Universe taking place, "In the world outside your window!" but that didn't quite mesh with things like the fictional football team in Kickers Inc., the New York Smashers. The goal posts were moving even as the titles were being released. Checking the credits for the various titles, I see that the creative teams were even more erratic than I realized. D.P. 7 seems to be the only title that had the same writer, penciller and inker for the first three issues.
