Description

This is my first art acquisition of 2014. I think this is one of the most graceful fantasy illustrations I've seen. I'm attracted to sensual drawings of this genre that suggest more than they say, and leave unanswered questions dangling and unclarified, but prodding to be addressed. (Kind of like a sexy elephant in the room, as it were.)

Why is the fetching vampire's victim here only half-dressed, for one (but elaborately so)? Is the vamp coming to the reclining woman in a dream, seducing her that way? Or is she instead an invited partner, in a curious lovemaking ritual? Are they separate aspects of the same woman, since they're almost similarly dressed (or undressed)? Intrigue upon intrigue present themselves here.

This is the eighth Joan Pelaez piece that I've purchased to be a keeper in my collection. Since these are of a uniform size, it's easy and fun to compile them in a single Itoya folder that I hope to fill one day with this amazing artist's work.
