DescriptionWatchmen is part of the pantheon of comics, a monument that combines the honors and the most prestigious awards since its release in 1987.The work of one of the greatest writers in comics history, Alan Moore. This cover classic is from Issue #10, published in 1987, untitled "Two Riders Were approaching ..." . As individual parts , the covers designed by Moore/Gibbons play a real narrative role, guiding the reader through the history and as the first panel of the first board; and the title is a quote used at the conclusion of the chapter . Here, there is a reference to a song by Bob Dylan, " All along the Watchtower " (before the great Jimi Hendrix' cover version) "Outside in the cold distance About did a wild cat growl , Were two riders approaching , Began the wind to howl . " As with all Watchmen' covers, no character but symbols. Here , the radar screen, a symbol that can be found on several occasions through the story. The Doomsday Clock indicates two minutes to midnight, the alert level in the country has reached DefCon 2 last level before nuclear war. The two characters, Rorschach and Nite Owl, advance towards the final confrontation with Adrian Veidt. Note the radar screen artifacts make a vague smiley face, a key symbol of the Watchmen series, with two spots in the center, the reflection on the bottom as well as the radar beam on the bloody drip left eye . I didn't thought such classic covers could be mine, and now it is ! :-) Social/Sharing |

A cover from a truly special series that is a great example of how symbolism was embedded into it and shows why this series bears repeated readings from year to year.
