I've wanted a good Kirby "Eyes" page for a while, and here's an early example! I also love the little "rewind" montage in the last two panels, which recaps earlier images from this page and the previous one.

I'd be grateful for any information or opinions about who might have inked this. Despite the frequent attributions to Joe Simon, it doesn't look at all like his work, and it's pretty well-documented that Simon's involvement in the Archie titles was limited to story and editorial. From Harry Mendryk at the Kirby Museum:

"While I am sure that Kirby had made significant creative contributions to the stories he worked on he was doing so with directions from Joe. In the past the inking of Jack�s pencils either involved Jack himself or was done by others in similar style. But for the new Archie titles Jack supplied only the pencils and all the inking was done in a more modern silver age style."

and

"Because of my time restrictions I will not be trying to identify the inking for Private Strong or the Fly. But although it sometimes takes time to come up with a proper inking credit it sometimes it is not hard at all to say who did not do the inking. In the case of the Shield and the Fly I think I can pretty confidently say that Jack Kirby did not do any of the inking."
