DescriptionShane Davis appeared at Comicpalooza 2014 and a friend asked me to pickup a piece from Shane. I agreed. While talking to Shane, I decided to splurge on a head shot of Clark from Superman: Earth One similar to the cover of the original book. The drawing is much better than my scan of it. Later, I saw a Shane Davis piece inked by his wife, Michelle Delecki-Davis. Michelle is a wonderful painter and, unknown to me, a comic book art inker. I was really impressed with her job on the piece that I saw, but by then Comicpalooza was long gone. What to do? Well, as it happens, Shane and Michelle were appearing at Heroes Con 2014 and Kathy and I were attending. So, we went by their tables to say hi and ask Michelle to ink the original. She wasn't at her table, but Shane agreed to hold the piece for her. He said he couldn't give a price for it (smart man), but that Michelle would be back shortly. I left it with him. I wandered off to attend to other business when lo and behold, Michelle walked by. I stopped her and told her about the piece and we agreed upon a price. She completed it as planned and she painted the red eyes that Shane had been unable to do in Houston (Neither had red paint or a red marker). It looks great. After she painted the piece, I took their picture with it and Kathy and I wandered off. I hadn't gone far when I realized that I was still holding her money! So, I gave Kathy the other items I was carrying and hurried back to pay Michelle. When I got to the table, Shane told me that she'd left to find me so I gave him the money and headed back to find Kathy. Once I rejoined Kathy, we wandered a few steps and found Michelle talking to another woman. I stopped and apologized for walking of with the cash. She introduced us to her friend, Shane's mom. Yep, she lives about 40m from Charlotte and had come to the show to see Michelle and Shane. Nice lady. In the additional images, you'll find a picture of the piece with her. Nice family. Shane's mom had lots of good things to say about her daughter-in-law, too. Social/Sharing |
