Description

American Born Chinese was a semi-finalist for the National Book Award. It was the first graphic novel to reach this stage. The American Library Association gave the book The Michael L. Printz Award for Excellence in Young Adult Literature.

Gene Yang is a local resident and I've attended his talks in Fremont, Berkeley, and San Jose. I bought page 201 because the drawing was based on the Centerville Library in Fremont, CA. It's one branch of the system where I work. However, I hadn't actually bought the book until I made this used book store discovery. I was very happy to purchase this first print hardcover with a sketch of the Monkey King.
