Description

John Cooper was one of the Main artists on the Battle Action Force comic book here in the UK, also famous for illustrating Johnny Red in the book.

I was able to get in touch with Mark Spencer here on there boards (many thanks Mark!) and I was able to commission a painting from him. I asked fro a scene from London in Peril where Cobra invades London and a few months later I get it back in the post (along with prelim sketch).

Pretty fantastic and a definite grail piece for me - an amazing painted scene from the artist of my favourite story from my favourite comic when i was growing up - and the book that definitely got me hooked on a lifetime of Comics & GI Joe.

This is what I asked for: You’re the artist, so I will leave it up to you what works – but the basics of what I would like to see is:
• A London cityscape with the Action Force & Cobra doing battle
• Big Ben getting blown up by Roboskull (red flying skull ship) in the background (a call back to a cover from the time – which I’ve included as reference)
Some of the detail you may or may not want to include are listed below (I’m listing more than I think you can fit in so you can choose what to leave out!).
• Cobra Characters
• Action Force characters (in order of preference to include): Duke, Scarlett, Gung Ho, Mutt, Roadblock, Recondo, Stalker
• Cobra troopers who have fallen in the battle
• I think that that Westminster Bridge or Parliament square might be a good setting
