DescriptionWith such a densely written story, there aren't many splash pages to be found in Watchmen. There are five nice splashes in this climactic sequence, but this one is probably my favorite.Despite the lack of action or dialogue, Moore and Gibbons work a lot of the book's themes and symbolism in here. Of course, there are the various supporting characters and the "Hiroshima lovers", but there are also callbacks to several covers, including #3 (nuclear hazard sign), #6 (Rorschach test), and #9 (Nostalgia perfume bottle). The time clock reads a few minutes after midnight, signifying that we've gone past the point of no return. And I don't think it's a coincidence that the broken bus has a sign that reads "Gordian Knot". Since I started collecting OA, I've always hoped to land a good Watchmen page. I'm glad it wound up being this one. Social/Sharing |

I'd agree that this is probably the nicest of the splashes. Well fought, Dan.

This is an incredible page and a top notch showcase of the amazing work Dave Gibbons did with this series. Thank you for sharing this.

Not just "a good Watchmen page," it's a GREAT Watchmen page! What an amazing splash this is! It's so good it doesn't need words to tell us what we're seeing. This is EPIC!

Wow, I had this page for several years then sadly had to downsize my collection at some point. Glad to see it found a good home with you, Dan! We don't really own anything in this world, we're just borrowing it for a while, much like the people in this epic page...let's enjoy while we can! Kudos on picking up a gem and take good care of it!
