Nick, Marvin and the new recruit Tommy Coates manage to capture a dangerous fugitive. A few hours later, Tommy, who’s with his girl-friend at the time, is the object of an attack. The two young people are admitted to hospital and listed in critical condition; the freshly captured fugitive denies all responsibility. The target of the attack – so Nick soon realizes – was not actually Tommy but his girl-friend: she’d been doing a photoreportage on Chinatown and had probably immortalized on film something that wasn’t supposed to be seen…
