DescriptionCollecting a page from every issue of Global Frequency has been a goal of mine ever since I started collecting art, and it has proven to be one of the most challenging goals I have ever set for myself. It is therefore with great pleasure that I add this page from David Lloyd to my collection. Here's David's description:"Don't know how many of you have seen the movie Crank, but the issue of Global Frequency which this work comes from is a kind of equivalent in terms of storytelling treatment. Almost its entire content is of a free runner with no time to spare crossing the roofs of London to apprehend and disable a mad bomber on the London Eye. The drawing was loose, the framing was as actionful and flowing as the movement of the main character, and I used lots of exagerrated foreshortening to get a number of tunnel effects looking along Sita's body so we were practically behind her, almost going with her on the run. A lot of the time I didn't care as much for accuracy as I perhaps should have when I found distortions gave me better movement effects than reality, but I was happy with it in total. And my attitude to it was that a realistic style was the last thing that was needed - I thought that Warren's story was very Totally Spies in it's feel so I tackled it that way. Tools were brush, fine-liners and crayon, but I used some wiggly fine liner for some shading on the story, too. Because the treatment I used overall was looser than much of my other work, someone on a blog I saw somewhere described it as a ' hack job '. I certainly could understand where that viewpoint was coming from, but The Run was a subject that needed only so much to be effective, and more would been superfluous. Does necessity only neccessitate the minimal when more can be used? It's a debateable question." I found his art on this issue to be glorious. Thanks, David and Paolo! If anyone here knows where I can get a page of Global Frequency by Steve Dillon, Garry Leach, Jon J Muth, Jason Pearson, or Roy A Martinez, please let me know! Social/Sharing |
