Description

This painting was used as the cover of Andre Norton's "Postmarked the Stars" paperback, which was published in January 1970 (it had a 1969 date). One of the first published examples of Jeff's new signature colophon "J squared," it falls right in the middle of when he was painting paperback covers at an incredible rate. The figure in the painting is based on a photo Jeff took of himself.

Painted on a piece of art board that is a little over 20" x 30". At some point in the past, this painting was subjected to temperature changes in a low humidity environment which, combined with the construction of the art board caused the cracking in the paint.

Cool and unique! I've never seen this piece before. I love how Jones blended the shadows with the starry background. Interesting pose and the sky is really alive in this
