Description

One of my favorite pages. It's like a perfectly cut gem -- it's almost too perfect, as it lacks the typical corrections and tiny mistakes typical of comics pages. Palmer inked Colan's Daredevil like no one else, and this page captures the quintessential joy of movement that is the thing attracted me to this title. Each panel is beautifully composed, and the page flows majestically. Note the deft use of Zipatone by Palmer.

Here's a quote by Tom Palmer from Tom Fields excellent "The Secrets in the Shadows: The Art and Life of Gene Colan":
�His [Conan's] pencils are subtle. They may not look that way�they may look powerful�but if you look at his penciled pages, you see there�s very light rendering, a grey. Now, you typically have three distinct values in these pencils: light, medium and dark. Some (inkers) ignore the light and make the medium as black as the dark, but I saw all three values. That was the difference.�

I don't know how many total pages of Colan/Palmer Daredevil there are, but it's not enough. I'm honored to have at least one. This is another I picked up from Mitch in 1990.

Too perfect is an understatement! Gene had such an amazing way of showing Daredevil in motion, and this page is an excellent example of his storytelling. Thanks for sharing this beauty with us!

About as perfect a Daredevil page as one could get! Frank is legendary, Mazzucchelli is my hero, but Gene Colan is my favorite Daredevil artist. Absolutely gorgeous!
