This is my first attempt at getting an anime character as heavyset. I've stuck to DC and Marvel for that. I don't know, for some reason I don't feel comfortable thinking about many male anime characters as heavyset, and I didn't want to force myself into getting characters I didn't want. But, I think there ARE a couple I do feel comfortable with.

Mana and Yuta are from Rumiko Takahashi's "Mermaid Saga" horror manga. Legend has it that eating the flesh of a mermaid can make you immortal. But that only works if you're REALLY lucky. Mermaid flesh can either straight up kill you or it'll turn you into a horrible monster called a Lost Soul. Yuta's a 500 year old mortal who's been trying to find a way to undo the effects of the Mermaid's Flesh, but only so he can age like a normal person and live a regular life again. Mana, his companion, his eaten Mermaid's Flesh as well, but she's only in her 30s. The two look like they're either in their late teens or early 20s. Their relationship is a platonic one, although Mana's feelings on Yuta could be romantic.

Their appearance here is based off the "Mermaid's Scar" OVA from the 90s. It was based on a single story arc from the series, and the animation from it is my favorite look for the two. The manga version of Scar is considered one of the scariest comics of all time on Comic Book Resources, and I should know because I'm the one who nominated it.

Damian and Cat worked together on this. Cat helped with the coloring.
