Description

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA #1 Color Proof (some collectors call them Color Guides) by George Roussos. All 17 story pages of the entire Marvel Comics first issue, cover dated March 1979. With a March date, these were realistically colored near the end of 1978. Page size is roughly 6.75 x 10.25 inches. The issue was written by Roger McKenzie and drawn by Ernie Colón. "G. Roussos" is hand written in the colorist credit area. This could be George's handwriting, but I'm not claiming that it is. Also in the same handwriting above the credits is: Based On The Television Series Battlestar Galactica. The letterer either forgot or wasn't told to include the mandatory credit. There are some humorous stat corrections on Ernie Colón's artwork. I guess he couldn't keep the characters straight. On printed page 10, Apollo was originally drawn in panels 1, 3 and 5, then changed to Colonel Tigh. The same mistake was made on pages 13 and 16. There are notations all over to help identify Adama, Apollo, Starbuck, and Tigh. It must have been first issue confusion. There's not much to say about the significance of this color proof other than it is for the famous first issue. Comic book collectors, TV series fans, Marvel zombies, and science fiction fans will all want this one-of-a-kind item. George Roussos died on February 19, 2000. This set has been stored in Mylar and will come shipped to you that way. You also get the original Chemical Color Plate Corp. envelope the proofs were originally stored in. Plus, included is a copy of the published comic book. Pages 1 and 7 are shown here. SOLD
