DescriptionAnother Childhood dream come true!My parents offered me a subscription to the Pilote weekly magazine because Asterix was pre-published there... Thanks to them, it opened the door to a score of other great strips, including the adventures of Lieutenant Blueberry, wonderfully scripted by Jean-Michel Charlier and beautifully illustrated by Gir, Jean Giraud's then dominant alias before he became equally famous under his Moebius moniker... This page comes from the second episode in the series, just about the time when I discovered it. Still strongly influenced by his mentor Jijé, Gir already displays his masterful sense of storytelling and action, when a posse of fierce Apache warriors is tricked by Blueberry into chasing a booby-trapped chariot, culminating with the explosion of a powder keg, much to the pursuers' dismay ... The sense of drama, the quick-paced rythm, the self-contained action, plus the fantastic depictions of the Apaches and their horses, all these ingredients were more than enough to leave the young kid I was then breathless and just wanting for more... The Blueberry series would go up with leaps and bounds, towards more intricate stories and even more breathtaking art, but, for me, it all started here! And all the promises were already there!...
