DescriptionI am so happy to finally have one of Miran Kim's X-Files paintings, I can't even say! I have had to keep it small and cheap for a while now with my art buying, which is hard in this hobby. (especially these days!) But when I came across this one I had to get it, even if it isn't a cover with Mulder and Scully on it. This is actually a trading card painting done for one of the X-Files card sets from Topps, who had the license for X-Files and did both the comics and the cards. On the back it simply says "Miran Kim" and below that "X-Files card art 1996." On the overlay over the art is says " (X-Files "Hell Money") " Holding the art in my hands and looking at one in person reveals so much that the scan cannot show. It is amazing. This piece is a smaller 10"x12.5" painting, instead of the 11x17 size of her covers. So it was perfect for me for both size and price.Miran's work on the X-Files comic back in the '90s was similar to Dave McKean's '90s run of Sandman covers; that is to say synonymous with the title and only done by these one of a kind artists/visionaries. They also are really similar in the way they incorporate other media, like pieces of photos or magazines, into their physical artwork, I have always been fascinated by that collage style of work. Every single X-Files covers except for one (of the 41) issues made was painted by Miran, and that one cover was a photo cover of the actual actors of the show. She has gone on to do covers for all kinds of stuff from a Crow mini series (I almost traded for a Crow cover last year but it didn't work out) as well as a Predator mini series and various other books. Her work is distinct and unique and I have always really liked it. These days I see her work pop up on sketch cards for various Topps and Marvel trading card sets, and I have some of those too, but her collage paintings are what I really love. :) UPDATE: After a little research I found that this is for card #28 from the X-Files Seasons Three card set. Additional images include the published front and the back of the card. Social/Sharing |

The look and feel of this piece follows the mood of the best X-Files episodes. Very nice.
