Description

GEORGE METZGER Moondog Original cover for one of the underground comic books published by Print Mint. I wrote George when I saw his work in Fantasy Illustrated and maintained a lax correspondence since then. Oddly, despite buying a lot of art from him direct I bought this out of an ad in The Buyer's Guide. George is one of those guys that could have had a much bigger career if he'd been interested in one. He spent most of his years in the silkscreen business and did art on the side as he so desired.

Great piece!! You are right about Metzger, he could have had a great career, had he so desired.

If nothing else someone should do a complete collection of his existing work, or even the collected Moondog. George is/was so lackadaisical about success he really just wanted enough work to live. Comes from living in Hippie California and his time on The Farm. He never seemed to have much ambition or motivation other than what was in front of him at the time. About as nice and easy-going a human being I've had the pleasure to know...
