Description

A classic "Blondie" from the first year of the strip (it started Sept 8, 1930). I love the flapper feel of these images.

The empire state building had just opened (May 1). Willie Mays was born (May 6), as well as Jim Jones (May 13) and cartoonist Don Martin (May 18).

In other news from May, 1931: from the Weimar Republic of Germany, prosecution of Adolf Hitler by Hans Litten for complicity in manslaughter committed by members of the Sturmabteilung at the Tanzpalast Eden ("Eden Dance Palace") in Berlin in 1930 was dismissed� the Fritz Lang-directed film M premiered in Berlin� and the Nazi Party won Landtag elections in Oldenburg with 37% of the vote. It was the first time the Nazis became the largest party in a Landtag.
