Description

Tanino Liberatore is an amazing Italian illustrator. His signature character is RanXerox – a musclebound cyborg constructed from photocopier parts who Richard Corben described as “a punk, futuristic Frankenstein monster” and who my wife has described as “fugly”. As a result, previous attempts to bring drawings of the character into my house have met with the standard response- “no way.” Luckily I was able to slip this one “past the censors,” so to speak. The great perspective and anatomic detail make this a powerful piece. As for the actual storyline of RanXerox, some might find it overly offensive, but it has to be taken in the context of the time when it was published. I doubt Blazing Saddles could ever be filmed today and I doubt a story along the lines of RanXerox would appear in the present Heavy Metal magazine. Regardless, I have always admired Liberatore’s style and a big thanks goes out to Hector for assisting with this purchase.
