DescriptionItem description:1980, Black Manta ComicLink Comments: Dick Giordano drew this 1980 page featuring Aquaman's chief nemesis Black Manta, a member of the popular villain team-up Suicide Squad! It appeared in the Aquaman story that ran in Adventure Comics #478. Black Manta first appeared in 1967's Aquaman #35. In the 70s, the character killed Aquaman's baby son, cementing him has the hero's mortal enemy. Black Manta's popularity stems somewhat from his membership in the Legion of Doom, the villain team that regularly fought the Super Friends on the 1970s cartoon series. Dick Giordano was an important figure in comic books for decades, working as a penciler, a prominent inker for Neal Adams' acclaimed work on Batman and Green Lantern/Green Arrow and a key editor at both Charlton and then at DC, rising into an important management role at DC in the 80s.
