Description

The Legion of Super-Pets never appeared in the the "Glorithverse," the dystopian universe of the Five Years Later Legion. This piece attempts to fill that gap.

David McAdoo was the perfect artist for this piece. I have lost track of how many pieces that Dave has drawn for me, but I have been happy with them all.

There were no Superboy or Supergirl in Five Years Later. The latter was replaced by a new character Laurel Gand, a Daxamite descendant of Valor (you know him as Mon-el). Just as Laurel replaced Supergirl, I have reimagined the Pets to be associated with Laurel instead of Supergirl or Superboy. I have also imagined how the Pets might be affected by the characters and events in the Glorithverse.

Beppo leads the Pets to reunite for an unauthorized broadcast to call upon the people of Earth to rise up against Earthgov and its Dominator masters.

1) Proty is standing with his back to us with a camera in the center foreground filming the group. He is still a photographer Five Years Later (see the cover of Legion of Super-Heroes 300) but he now is Beppo's cameraman.

2) Beppo is a Daxamite stowaway on the ship that transported Laurel to Earth after she defeated the Khunds. During the five year gap, he became a sign language reporter for Earthgov on Dirk (Sun Boy) Morgana's PR staff. He wears clothes and a earring like Dirk. He has now gone rogue, reunited his friends, and is giving the hand sign: Resist.

3). Streaky is the Earth born pet of Laurel Gand. He gained his powers in an as yet unrevealed incident. He was mutated in the same Black Dawn incident that mutated Timber Wolf into Furball. He appears as a sabretooth tiger but he still has the lightning bolt on his side.

4) Comet started as Biron the Centaur before being cursed by Circe and transformed into a horse. He became the "pet" of Laurel Gand. During the five year gap, he was transformed by the magic of Glorith into a human body with the head of a horse. He wears a variation of the costume of one of his published human identities, Biron the Bowman.

5) Krypto is an unexplained survivor of the the pocket universe created by the Time Trapper. Powerless as a result of willingly exposing himself to Gold Kryptonite to aid his Superboy, he survived the death of the Trapper and the the destruction of the pocket universe. He has been on a long journey and his cape is in tatters. He represents the many dogs and cats living in the streets or shelters: most started out as pets and are in their predicament through no fault of their own.

Furball (the now monstrous Timber Wolf)-mutated in Black Dawn.
