A fantastic pin up of Void (from Jim Lee's Wildcats fame) by the ubër talented Brian Stelfreeze, the splendid storyteller currently drawing Black Panther for Marvel.

Well he also is a great illustrator. And a superb painter. But I digress.

This piece was done for the Wildcats adventuresd sourcebook (thanks, Eric & Dave). To say that the "published" piece does not do the art justice, would be an understatement, as it is slightly oversized and drawn full bleed.

I actually have owned this one for a long time, probably a bit more than 10 years so I thought this year's birthday being special, I would finally upload it after having hesitated to do so for several years.

To me, this is the quintessential black & white piece. The design is striking both in terms of the piece itself, its ying & yang-esque composition and faultless execution (you barely see a drop of ink), and in the sense that Bryan took liberty with Jim Lee's original, let's say more "round", design of the character.

The result is faultless, superb and plainly elegant. Art collectors or comic fans often throw the word "modern master" around a bit too quickly for my taste. In the case of Brian, I would make a hard case to anyone saying he doesn't deserve that title.
