Description

Commissioned in 2017 (in fact commissioned days ago).

Aidan Lacy and I were discussing the upcoming Heroes Con. He recommended Pat Quinn, artist of Moonstone's Phantom and Marvel's Captain Marvel for a possible commission. After seeing Pat's work and talking to him I was sold. I knew he could draw animals (Phantom's friends include Devil the wolf and Hero
the horse).

This image is based upon the cover of Superboy 124 (Superbaby's First Fight), where Superbaby clocks a victorious boxer because he thinks the boxer assaulted his opponent after shaking hands with him. The cover text describes Clark having a "killer punch." Here Beppo has unleashed such a punch on the Champion of the Universe, the antagonist of one of my favorite comics, Marvel Two in One Annual 7, where the Champion defeated
multiple Marvel heroes before TKOing the Thing after three brutal rounds. Ben Grimm's bravery inspired the Champion to spare Earh his judgment.

Here, the Champion has traveled to DC's Earth 1in the 1960s. He issues a challenge to Earth's heroes. Superman battles valiantly but the Champion has inflicted much punishment before knocking him down. As the Champion raised his hands in victory, an unexpected furry missle knocks him off his feet. Beppo hoots in triumph as he punches the Champion. Like baby Clark, Beppo may not understand boxing.

Winner by disqualification: the Champion.
