DescriptionTerrific painted ink wash page by Nicola Scott (coming off of her acclaimed run as the artist for Wonder Woman at D.C.) from the premier issue of Black Magick, written by Greg Rucka. This is page 9.I picked this up from Nicola herself, and she signed it for me. Nicola actually sketches out the page on the backside, flips it over and then ink washes it with the help of a lightbox. So, the pencils are on the back. This was also one of a few pages released by Image as a preview before Black Magick #1 came out, and it was featured in an article about the book in Entertainment Weekly. So, that's nice! Very nice page. It has a Scott Hampton feel to it.

The art from the entire series is pretty stellar. An underappreciated masterpiece, if you ask me.

Gorgeous ink washes from this incredible series. I did a double take right now when I saw the lens glare on the glasses in panel two. :) And then the counterpoint of Rowan (with the dark background) and the ensorceled pawn (with the white background) facing each other in panels five and six put this one over the top. Thanks for the pointers about her penciling on the back and ink washing the front! Didn't know that - very cool (any chance of an additional image with the pencils?).

Not just the lense flare. But the shadow of the glasses frame and the bead of sweat that are terrific details. I'll see if I can get a good scan/photo of her pencils to put up.
