"White Dragon! Red Death!" Part 1 of 2. A disappointed Peter Parker walks back to his apartment and discovers Betty Brant (Leeds) inside! Hold on, didn't Betty marry Ned Leeds several months ago (in Amazing Spider-Man # 156)? Yes, but now she's interested in Mr. Parker again! However before the web-slinger can tend to his affairs of the heart, he must tend to business in Chinatown! And as depicted on the dramatic cover, that business may be dangerous, fiery, lethal, or all of the above! First appearances of Phillip Chang and the White Dragon.

COMMENTS:

In 1978, the Silver Age of superheroes had just ended. One of the best stages of American comics that began in the 60s, ended a little more than ten years later. The experts considered that the end of the Silver Age for Spider-Man was the Amazing Spider-Man issue #150, but this was not all true.

Although the scripts had ups and downs (they did not return to greatness until the arrival of Roger Stern in the mid-80s), there were some writers who stood out above the rest. One of them was Marv Wolfman, a great writer who stood out for his work in DC and mainly for his work on New Teen Titans and Crisis on the Infinite Earths. The scriptwriter did a very professional job in the arachnid series, with stories that, although they did not go down in history, they did that the character evolved and grew, going from youth to a quick maturity.

In the graphic aspect of this page we are before the great Ross Andru. The prolific cartoonist was remembered forever for his work in the arachnid series. Andru, with a style similar to the mythical John Romita Sr., did a conscientious and spectacular work. In these pages, for example, it is shown by its enormous quality that it can be found in the few pages, which is able to capture the tension of the situation and make a character, as strange as the White Dragon, look strong and dangerous.
Good page that exemplifies to perfection what happened during the end of the 70s, evolution of the protagonists, with an attempt of graphic permanence and introduction of new plots and characters.

Grade A Andru! From 1975-1981 in my opinion Andru, while past his career prime in age, reached his artistic pinnacle. For both Marvel and DC during that time he consistently produced amazing [no pun intended] interior and Cover work for both companies flagship characters. Underrated is word used far to often but in Andru's case it very much applies. Although I am somewhat glad for "snobbery" in the OCA world as if not for that I never could have obtained the Andru pieces I do have :)

This White Dragon issue was my very first Spider-man issue I ever read! I just re-read a bunch of Ross Andru issues recently and they are FANTASTIC! The level of craftsmanship is excellent. This page has great dynamics and theatrical staging, Ross Andru at his best. Congratulations!

Escribo en español que se me da mejor que el inglés. Fantástica página de los 70 de Ross Andru y Spiderman. Lo tiene todo.

Con independencia de lo buena que es la página, artísticamente hablando, me ha dejado con ganas de saber como continua la historia.

Sure thought Spidey was a goner when I read this page back in the day.  Well, not really, since it's the comic world.  Great page, thanks for sharing.
