Description

This piece is super interesting because it is one of very few of the pieces I've been able to find of this early design of the darkness before it was ultimately finalized into the initial comic release. Talking to Jordan about it was very interesting as he told me that the writer of the time was Annie Nocenti. The letters at the bottom were going to be him writing the credits, "Nocenti and Raskin" though he abandoned the idea. He said that some of the direction he remembered from her was that he wanted the character to be kind of that ugly sexy type, like Willem Dafoe. I wrote to Annie, and she said the only thing she remembers is that she added the idea of the Darklings to the mix. To me, this piece is a part of Darkness history and I love it. Its about the size of a DPS.

In the additional images, I'm including pics of the other pieces I've been able to find with this design. I don't have any of those original art pieces but rather am uploading them here to document them. The artists included are Marc Silvestri, Randy Queen, and Michael Turner.
