DescriptionThis comic has a very important personal history for me. The first comics ever bought for me were from my mother. She bought me a triple pack of GI Joe #21-23. The very next chance I got I rode my bike to the corner 7-11 with my $3.00 allowance. After about 30 minutes looking at their spinner racks, I made my 4 choices... Thing #13, , Incredible Hulk #296, ROM #55 & JLA #227. I was pretty into Dungeons & Dragons which is why JLA #227 was an easy decision for my first choice. I picked the Thing #13 due to the cool monster on the cover & then ROM because I thought ROM was a robot. That’s also why I picked up Hulk #296 as Hulk was battling ROM on that cover. This cover features the entire JLA line-up: Hawkman, Hawkwoman, Red Tornado, Green Arrow, Zatanna, Black Canary, Atom & Elongated Man. Also appearing are Lord Claw & his dreaded dragons! Anyway, being the first comic I personally picked off the stands, JLA #227 has a spot in my heart no other comic will ever have. Never in my wildest dreams did ever think 33 years later I would own the original art to one of the first comics I ever had. :) Social/Sharing |

It is stories like these that make me smile. I certainly have been blessed to own a few of the covers and pages to the first comics I ever bought or was given and I know the happiness that comes from putting one of these pieces into your personal collection. Congrats on a great pickup and thanks for sharing the art and memory!

The story is as sweet as the art that goes with it.

Had i realised that this was this important to you, I would have let it go years early. Bought this back in 2003 when I was in my "JLA completist" mind frame, and whilst I always liked it, I am glad it ended up with someone that loves it.

Great story that I'm sure many of us can relate too. My memories of comics are so intertwined with my childhood that they are basically inseparable. I am very lucky to have the splash pages from my very first comics off the rack so I know how you must feel about this cover. Thanks for the story and congrats!
