DescriptionAt last, a prime Tim Conrad page from my favourite story of his: "Worms of the Earth"!How could I not take notice when I saw his talent emerge in Conan-related comics in the mid-70's? His art was grandiose! Wait, no: it IS grandiose!!! But it was when I opened Savage Sword of Conan 16 that all hell broke loose! Imagine that: a dream-team-up of Barry Windsor-Smith and Tim Conrad on a spectacular adaptation (by Roy Thomas, of course!) of one of Robert E. Howard's finest stories, "Worms of the Earth" starring Pict warrior Bran Mak Morn. I was in heaven! Little did I know, at that time, that Barry only pencilled the first 10-or-so pages that were inked by Tim Conrad. When Barry abandoned the story, Tim continued on his own and, when the second and final part appeared in the following issue, his name was the only one credited (despite assistance by Joyce Furman on airbrush and Larry Gaydos on backgrounds). But, astoundingly, it didn't matter: the story continued seamlessly with wonderful artwork throughout even without Barry's involvement. Now that's what I call a feat! Forty years on, I still hold this story as the best ever Howard rendition on par with "Red Nails" (yes, that high!). And this very page is beautiful beyond belief, full of details that print or scan could not do justice to... One grail to me, for sure! Social/Sharing |

One of my favorite stories in comics history. I only wish it were available in a collection in the original black-and-white/wash. The recolored version is not great.
bravo!

Thanks Mark! Obviously, an Artist Edition would be the right thing to do!
