DescriptionThe Flash:Time Flies was a quirky graphic novel about The Flash chasing a dude in his overalls into a zany future full of epic architecture. The art was done by Seth Fisher and is truly inspiring work.Seth's version of The Flash doesn't use speed lines or blurs. Instead he walks casually, the world frozen in time as craziness erupts around him. The world's fastest powerwalker. There is no sense of movement or speed. Nothing heroic. Seth showcases the fastest man alive by pausing him at awkward moments. It's SUCH a unique take on the character! This is page 27, a splash of The Flash. I normally have dove eyes for Seth's panel pages, but this splash stuck with me hard. I find it mesmerizing, one of my favorite pieces in his entire career. The page chooses a strange angle, an unusual tilt, that catches your eye and pulls you through. It's cinematic in the reveal and storytelling. A tiny body pushes through a crowd. We follow his path back down the alley, past the shoved people, up to the rooftops, where we find ourselves looking down over the shoulder of our hero, recently arrived and taking in the scene, entering the page just as we're leaving it. It's wonderful storytelling. And what makes it all work, what pulls your eye through the page and creates layers of height and depth, is the architecture. These futuristic shapes and textures, the lines and density, every stroke precision-placed and stacked to create a sense of flow and movement. Yet it's so simple. No blacks, no crosshatching, just shapes and line placement. And personality. There is so much personality in Seth's work, you can see the artist in the art. PENCILS MARKS: Surprisingly, the page has a lot of unerased pencils! Very interesting to see. ART SIZE/PRINTED SIZE: While the same paper size is used on all his books, the margins vary, typically 3/4"-1"+. This page utilized the full outer border with no margin, meaning the artwork is about 25% larger than average pages and quite enormous! On top of this, the printed page crops the original art a further 1/2" around, before enlarging it to fit the space, growing the image even larger! Social/Sharing |

Seth had a different way of seeing superheroes and he kind of made the reader see them through his own distinct lens.
