DescriptionThis is a large painting used as the cover art for "The Adventurer", published by Cardinal as GC-34, in 1956.This information came to me from thanks to Rubén (who know more about this field than I). He also informed me that even though this painting was sold to me as being by Barye Phillips, and is signed "Barye" in the lower right, the artist is actually Charles Binger. As Rubén commented, "Why Binger chose to emulate the classic "Baryé" signature is a mystery I've tried but failed to find out, but to this very day, most vintage paperback dealers still advertise all Binger covers as being done by Phillips. Ah well...." As you can see from the scan, the image focuses on a large figure, a pirate/swashbuckler, holding a sword standing on the left, with three images of women painted on shields to the right. The painting is fully rendered with excellent detail and entirely fills a large 22 x 26" piece of Kromoline 4-ply Cold Press illustration board. The colors are vibrant. The original is signed in the lower right ("Barye") however, that is obviously not correct. As a note, there is some edge/corner foxing which would "disappear" once framed. As always, shipping costs are not included in the price (but may be negotiable depending on the deal we agree on) and I prefer not to take PayPal. Checks or money orders are preferred.
