DescriptionSOLD AT AUCTION FOR $3,539!23.25x24.75" wooden frame holds wonderful painted original art cover recreation for "Action Comics" #146 (July 1950) featuring Superman ripping large steel bank vault door off its hinges, freeing trapped bank manager, teller and security guard. Art was recreated by the original cover artist - Al Plastino (1921-2013), noted as one of the most prolific Superman artists of the 1950s. Plastino also worked as a comics writer, editor, letterer and colorist and also co-created the DC Comics characters Supergirl and Brainiac, as well as the Legion of Super-Heroes w/writer Otto Binder. Beautifully painted cover recreation has been quadruple-matted to 12.75x14.25" and is further enhanced by crafted custom frame created by artist Dan Makara, featuring collage style utilizing Superman Gum, Inc. gum card and various Superman color images, comic panels and covers from the 1950s, including the actual cover for the issue this art recreates (as seen at upper left and lower right). Inner frame has collage of "Superman" daily strip panels. Exc. overall and a very neat display. Plastino cover recreations are rare, this being a top quality example.
