Description

SOLD AT AUCTION FOR $1,801!

13x28" triple matted display holds artboard w/pen and ink original art by Irwin Hasen for "Green Lantern" daily strip that was proposed in 1948 but never came to be. Hasen (1918-2015), is noted for his 1940s work on Green Lantern and for creating Justice Society of America member Wildcat. Art features four panels w/Golden Age Green Lantern Alan Scott in every panel, coming upon Doiby Dickles' taxi, which is being driven by Green Lantern's nemesis The Harlequin (w/Doiby tied up in the back). She lures him to the cab only to hit him w/her mandolin. Last panel shows Green Lantern spotting Doiby's Rocket Signal in the sky. Bottom center has vintage comic text panel about The Harlequin. Bottom margin of art has been inscribed in pencil "To My Dear Friend Dan - Green Lantern Daily Circa '48 - Irwin Hasen 2004." Reverse has extensive pencil and ink original art showing two different views of Golden Age Sandman Wesley Dodds (in his yellow and purple costume, though in bw here) and gun-toting gangsters. Art is by fellow Golden Age legend Joe Simon (1913-2011), who co-created Captain America and worked extensively w/Jack Kirby at DC Comics on the 1940s Sandman and Sandy the Golden Boy stories. Simon has signed at lower right in pencil. Vintage comic scroll panel w/Sandman-related text at right. Art is clean and Exc. Dan Makara Collection.
