I’ve wanted this commission for a number of years, but only considered a couple of artists that I thought could do it justice. Based on following and collecting Ebas’ work since his beginnings that list got very short very fast, and when discussing commissions late 2017 with Eric, it was a no-brainer to check this off my #bucketlist.

Eric’s storytelling here is simply off-the-chart. You can literally “feel” the weight of the cavernous hell-lair, and whether the succubus discovered Sonja already worn out from some other struggle or even Sonja’s legendary stalwart spirit could not withstand the charms of the succubus is likely only whispered in dark corners of remote taverns. You can only imagine what might happen next, and there’s another story to tell here, but that’s for another day.

The framing needed to be something special as well for this 11x17 beauty. I chose a distressed nailhead style frame, black outer matting with a hammered metal finish, thin inner mat in suede crimson-rust, and sitting behind masterpiece acrylic. The copic marker colors really come alive in the finished piece and draw you in.

While this may very well be my last art commission, there’s something to be said for finishing an era with onehellofa bang! @ericbasaldua, what can I say? You rocked it!

Great commission indeed! Although Red Sonja looks a little unsure about what is about to happen, it's a beautiful scene. Nice frame job too!
