DescriptionSOLD AT AUCTION FOR $3,634!Three separate strips of artboard form complete Sunday page, measuring 22.75x29". Artboards w/India ink art original art for Jan. 6, 1956 Sunday page. Art is by Frank Frazetta and was produced during the period that Frazetta was an assistant to Al Capp. Art features 12 panels w/Li'l Abner and his family in Pineapple Junction, the next village over from Dogpatch. First panel features Abner and Daisy Mae observing preparations for the annual "Yawn L. Sullivan Memorial Dance," w/the giant Sullivan sleeping on a boulder. Daisy refers to him as "Th' Ideel O' All Mount'in Manhood!!" to which Abner concurs. As they carry Honest Abe, Abner and Daisy discuss how Sullivan has managed to never exert himself, saving his energy and setting an example for the men and boys of Pineapple Junction, which is evidenced by the women of Pineapple Junction carting their lazy husbands about. Remainder of page shows Milton arriving from Pineapple Junction to offer his services as a babysitter to Available Jones, offering countless letters of recommendation. Bottom left panel features nice portrait image of Moonbeam McSwine smoking her pipe. Capp has signed last panel as he always did for Frazetta's art. Fourth panel has UFS copyright strip. "Li'l Abner" title paste-over at top left w/"Yes, Sir, He's My Baby-Sitter" subtitle past-over beside large "Al Capp" paste-over. Second panel has partial lifting of text paste-over. Artboard sections show moderate aging along left margin which has wide strip of masking tape on back. Top margin is aged as well. Backs has remnants of brown paper tape used to secure strips into single piece. Strips were rolled and as such, each has notable curl w/two vertical creases to top/bottom strips and single vertical crease to middle strip. Artboards are VG overall, but could be matted and framed for VF art display. Richard Calusdian Collection. Social/Sharing |
