DescriptionHaving been an avid reader of all these wondrous late 19th/early 20th century adventure/sci-fi epics, I was naturally overjoyed to see them given the Alan Moore makeover tratment...The angular and versatile art of Kevin O'Neill is a perfect vehicle for this steampunk uchronic story, filled to the brim with references that constantly add to the pleasure of reading. The 3-volume spin-off saga of Janni Dakkar offers plenty of opportunities to explore other aspects of this fascinating fantasy world, bordering on the Lovecraftian that Alan Moore was soon to embrace more fully... Free from word-balloons, this wordless sequence is a great example of the endearing charms of the series, reintroducing us to Captain Nemo’s daughter, Janni, by showcasing the key elements of her life, from the truculent pillaging to the (admittedly very restrained) romance, to the heavy burden of the Captain’s coat and concluding with a monumental sight of the Nautilus! Now, that is a ship I would have loved to embark upon... PS: I don't know if there will ever be new installments in this series, but I would love to see it enter the world of Tarzan... Opar, Pal Ul Don, where have you gone, now?... Social/Sharing |
